21st March 2011
What a stodgy beginning to the new year. It's only just waking up, stretching
and rubbing it's eyes, and it's March already! Some new programs for you, all of them public course or in-house, whichever you need: Coaching and mentoring - for managers and leaders at all levels. Latest theoretical approaches and research evidence, coupled with some good case studies and thorough differentiation between what is coaching and what is mentoring - well, as far as is possible anyway, since the line can be a little blurred. With our Seniors working much later in life, this is a good way of locking up institutional knowledge by capturing their knowledge, wisdom and experience and for them to feel good about passing it on. Version 5 of the National Certificate in Business (First Line Management) level 4 is all bedded in now and working well. For most of my clients I'm now putting in an OSH unit which is finding good favour. The usual problem of getting people to do the necessary assignments is still there, so please make sure you brief your intended participants as to the level of work required prior to getting their commitment. There's a National Certificate and a Diploma in Business Administration that have both been through the test-bed pilot stage and as soon as I can get a moment I'll put up a brochure on them both - in the meantime email me for the outlines. Train the Trainer has been running successfully for over 15 years, Workplace Assessment (4098/11281) was added about 5 years ago as the 'back end', and now I've added the 'front end' - Training Design, based around starting with Training Need Analysis and finishing with a training program, with assessments all designed, ready to go. Creative Thinking is a new workshop that explores how to think off-the-wall, reducing the effect of all the restraining and conditioning forces that stop us thinking creatively. We'll examine Ned Hermann's stuff on Brain Dominance (left-right brain) to see how you really like to think, and Learning Styles analysis which will show you how you like to process information. Managing the Customer Service Team is a new workshop that combines standard management practices with modern philosophies and the specific requirements of Customer Service. Foundations for Effective Supervision Stage One and Stage Two are the revamped versions of the public course I have been running at EMA since 1991, completely modernised and inclusive of the last few years of Legislative amendments (particularly the ERA).
I've been doing plenty of
guest speaking
as well, a regular on EMA conferences such as Managing Mature Workers (Feb) and
the recent Payroll conference (March), and I've got another coming up in April
for my friends at the NZ Institute of Chartered Accountants on employment law.
I think that's enough for now - more later! Carpe Diem
Steve
